I have the honour to acknowledge
the receipt of Your Lordship's Confidential Despatch of
the 21st. of April transmitting for my observations a copy
of a further letter from the War Office on the subject of
the Crown Rent of Spring Gardens.
2.

Government is still unable to accept the view of the Army
Council that the War Department should now be credited in
the Colonial Military Lands Account with the capitalized
value of the Crown Rent to which the property has again
become subject.

I have been personally interested, and claim no small
share, in the settlement effected in recent years of out-
-standing
